Moores is proud to announce the establishment of a dedicated Retirement Living practice. This new practice addresses the growing demand for support by our private clients as they downsize and transition into retirement living.
Andrew Boer, Practice Leader and head of the Property Team at Moores says, “We have a long history of helping our private clients in various areas of legal issues, in an integrated way. We are excited to extend and solidify our expertise with a dedicated Retirement Living practice.
“It’s no secret that demand for retirement accommodation is surging, not only because it represents an opportunity for Australia’s demographically-dominant over 55’s to downsize, but because it offers social connectivity which research has shown carries physical and mental health benefits for older Australians. Having our Retirement Living practice up and running means we can seamlessly support our private clients as they transition to retirement living. We expect our Retirement Living practice to be useful to our clients alongside our Private Conveyancing, Estate Planning and Estate Administration practice areas.”
We are very excited to welcome Jessica Kinnear, Special Counsel to head Moores’ Retirement Living practice.
Jessica is a leading retirement living lawyer, with over 12 years of experience in property and retirement living. Prior to joining Moores, Jessica ran her own legal practice, Village Advisors, dedicated to helping residents and prospective residents of retirement villages. Last year, she provided independent advice to Aveo’s Victorian village residents on the Levitt Robinson class action against Aveo, and is one of few lawyers recommended by the Residents of Retirement Villages Victoria Inc. (RRVV) to represent residents.
What is retirement living?
A retirement village is an independent living lifestyle choice for retirees looking to downsize and enjoy a sense of community and security.
There are a number of different options for retirement living, from independent to assisted living, villages where you can rent, land lease communities and more. Each of these models operate under specific legislation and can have different tenures, contract types, facilities and services provided, including differences in entry fees, ongoing charges and exit fees. We assist our clients to navigate the different retirement living options and contract types which includes:
- Advice on moving into a retirement village – we provide advice on the contract and associated disclosure documents, give tailored recommendations and coordinate settlement.
- Advice on leaving a retirement village – we provide advice on your departure and selling entitlements and rights to aged care funding, and coordinate aged care funding from the village.
- Working together with your financial advisors and other consultants to provide a seamless service.
